Helpful Dartington

Dartingtons tree guys were hard at work once again. Chipping up the hedge trimmings from a few weeks ago. These chippings will make good paths in the foxhole community garden – so thanks to Dartingtons land team for coming back and sorting it all out for us!

Learning how to graft

Membership now open for 2015!

There's just one chance each year for people to sign up to our CSA. With just 50 membership spaces open (an increase from 30 spaces last year) to make sure everyone gets a fair share of the harvest on the farm. So here's your chance! How to Flip a Polytunnel

Today I was very little use in a morning meeting about the future of sustainable food in the local area, having spent the past 3 days on the couch with a cold. Luckily, I left the meeting with a mission in mind – to "flip" our polytunnel from last years crops ready for sowing this years crops. A few hours later… voila! Ready to go, and now we're almost ready to sow carrots, spring onions, kohl rabi and rainbow chard.

Hayley My Hero

This mornings meeting at Fat Lemons in town was with Hayley, an architect who's a friend of the farm, and who after an hour had demystified building a shed and put the CSA on the right track. If you need an architect that is ecologically sensible – she's it! Now we just have to see about planning permission… Thank you Hayley!!!

New view

A last day on site for Dave (Dartington's tree guy) means he's finished laying the hedge between our propagation glasshouse and the neighbouring community garden. Suddenly we can see all the way over to foxhole (the big white building)! Great to have the views!

Dartington at it Again

Our favourite tree guy was at it again. Making quick work of laying the hedge between our propagation glasshouse and the neighbouring community garden. Always good to see hedge maintenance undertaken on site as they’re hotspots for all sorts of critters. Thanks Dave!

Playing with poo…

Today our volunteers were playing with compost. Making a lasagne that included old veggies and cow manure from our friends at Jolly Farm CSA. A messy business, but a great mix which we'll use on our veg beds in our glasshouses in a few months. But it made everyone pretty mucky! So there was some team cleaning at the end of the day. 🙂

Lovely Dartington

There are always two sides to every coin. At our CSA we're lucky that we see the way that Dartington Estate can really support a community initiative flourish on their land. We interact alot with the land management team and always appreciate how they take being our landlord's seriously – and look after things that need doing on site. Which ranges from broken panes of glass in our glasshouses to the other week sending Dave their lovely tree guy to come and sort out a few of our trees that have been left to their own devices and are now a danger to the glasshouses. Thank you Dave, John, Harriet and everyone on the land management team that are looking after us.
