Our lettuces are ready for harvesting but we've still got a couple of weeks so we've offered the extra leaves to Sarah who sells salad bags in town. Mutual benefit!
Tiny Veg is almost ready!
Today I've been excitedly inspecting our glasshouse crops which are all coming along and almost ready for the first harvest on the 2nd of June for our CSA members. If you want to be eating fresh, local veg then contact jenny@schoolfarmcsa.org.uk and check out this tiny Broad Bean from outside!
Almost xmas?!
Tuesday was another amazingly productive day, with lots of weeding, and lots of seedlings being planted out. Can you believe we planted out 10cm high Brussel Sprout seedlings? Xmas isn't far away. 😉 Below isn't a farm wedding veil, it's crop mesh to protect our babies from overzealous munching by pests.
Sowing seeds
Last week the level 2 & 3 students learned how to use our seed drill and we quickly sowed carrots, beetroot and parsnips before the weekend rains came to water them in. Thanks to our learners!
Amazing apprentices
Wahoo! Our very first crops went into the top field today. Thanks go to the apprentices from Schumacher College who made the effort today to get our onion crop in the ground!
3 days later…
I've got an amazing tan… and had to work all weekend… but luckily had 4 volunteers that came out and helped the CSA sort out the new field ready for planting up. Thank you to Chris, Mel, Sonia and Monika (with shout outs to Hannah and Lou & Dan for offering). Another job jobbed – one step closer to harvest!
Sad goodbye…
Chris' last volunteer day is today. So we sent him off with a bronze fork and lots of appreciation for the time he's spent as our Long Term Volunteer. Thank you Chris!

Always good to have a plan. This way all the lovely people who work on site know what's happening… And we can try and get there together. 🙂 this is our cropping plan
Volunteer day
Another lovely day on the farm. We had some amazing volunteers who helped us prepare for planting a new hedgerow (come this Saturday from 11am-2pm to help), and helped by preparing a bed and then sowing it with mange tout peas. Thank you everyone for your time! What a great vibe to have such lovely people on the farm on a sunny/blustery day. 🙂
Dogs like hammocks too!
This week we were happy to put up our hammocks and have a swing and a snooze during breaks. Here's Myrtle our favourite dog having a swing with her best friend Sarah from School Farm Organics. Roll on summer!
