We aren’t currently running our volunteer days, but we are discussing how we can re-start them now that lockdown has finished. We hope to offer some volunteer opportunities soon, watch this space for details!
Trainee grower opportunity
We now have our trainee for the 2020 season, but we offer this opportunity each year and plan to offer it again in 2021. We will advertise again in early 2021. Below is this year’s advert to give you an idea about what the trainee position is all about.
We are looking for someone to join our small team at School Farm CSA as a part-time trainee grower from mid April to end October 2020.
This is a brilliant learning opportunity for someone who wants to go on to run a market garden or work in community gardening. We are a three-acre CSA farm, providing veg shares from early June until Christmas, selling wholesale produce to local businesses year-round, and teaching accredited horticulture courses in partnership with Bicton College.
You will be involved in all aspects of running the market garden, including propagation, cultivation, fertility management and crop care. There will also be opportunities to get involved in other aspects of the farm including marketing, events, and working with volunteers, depending on your interests. We are also active members of both the South West growers’ group and the South Hams growers’ group, so you would be welcome to join on tours and networking events at other local farms.
In exchange for 2 days a week we can offer a £50 stipend and fresh vegetables. Accommodation will not be available on site but we are happy to help find accommodation locally.
To apply, please send us an email explaining why you are interested in joining us for the growing season and your current growing and other work experience. Deadline for applications is the 17th February. Informal interviews/work day at the farm will be held in the week of the 9th March. For any questions and to apply please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
