Ferments from the Farm
End of year sale, now on!
We’re running an end-of-year sale to make room for our 2026 ferments, with a special offer: any 3 ferments for £10! Pick up your ferments now from our farm fridge — this includes all of our kimchi, krauts, and our chilli sauce!
This is the best time to stock up, try something new, or gift a little Devon ferment magic to someone you love this winter.
Made by us.
We make all our ferments here at the farm, using a mix of our own surplus produce and the very best organic vegetables from Shillingford Organics. Every jar is made in small-batches, naturally fermented for at least one month, and kept raw (unpasteurised) — the way it should be.
For six years, Crock & Cole created ferments inspired by the landscape and seasons of Devon. At School Farm CSA, the fermenters have found a new home, and the recipes live on. Whether you’re after a Crock & Cole favourite or something new from our growers’ imagination and the will of the seasons, you’ll find it here.
Our range.
We make a changing, seasonal selection of ferments. Here are some of our staples:
‘Devon Roots’ Kimchi
A kimchi inspired by our local produce — bold, tangy, full of depth, and made with savoy cabbage and seasonal roots, and dried chillies.
Classic Sauerkrauts
Crisp, clean and bright. Sometimes golden, sometimes ruby-red, but always full of flavour.
Curtido (El Salvador via Devon)
Shredded cabbage, carrot and onion with pimentón, cumin and lime — lively, fresh and perfect with eggs, tacos, soups, and salads… everything really!
Fermented Chilli Sauce
Made from the ‘waste’ chilli flesh we process at the farm for our seed crops. This long, slow ferment brings heat, fruitiness and complexity. A favourite among our volunteers!
Seasonal Specials
Depending on years’ harvest, you might find fermented radish, cucumber, or garlic scapes, in our more experimental batches.
We make what the land gives — every jar is a little snapshot of the season.
How to buy our ferments.
You can buy our ferments directly from the farm, any time you like. We stock a self-service Farm Fridge that is accessible day and night. Just come by, choose your jars, and pay using the honesty-box system — payment details are displayed on the fridge.
We also will bring out ferments to try & buy at our seasonal pop-ups, open days & events — keep an eye on our Instagram for announcements.

Ferment workshops
Over the winter, when things in the field slow down, we run practical fermentation workshops. During the workshop you’ll be: guided through the fundamentals of fermentation; given the recipes to recreate some of our recipes at home; and taught the confidence to put your own twist on things with whatever vegetables you may have at hand.
